Kirsty Bushell

National Vice-Chairman

Joining the Royal Air Force in 1987, Wing Commander Kirsty served in UK, Germany, the Gulf, Norway, Cyprus, and around USA and Canada in Intelligence, Infrastructure and Personnel Support roles.   

Engaged with SSAFA from her first tour she has worked across the serving community supporting welfare for deployed families, the wounded, injured and sick, and latterly as a member of the RAF Benevolent Fund Grant Sub-Committee.  She is a founding trustee of the Military Wives Choir Foundation and remains passionate around its mission of Sing, Share, Support. 

Since leaving the RAF in 2011 Kirsty a SSAFA trustee and had a career break with her two now-teenage boys and then-serving husband, before joining a major infrastructure company in 2018.  As their future markets lead and strategy and transformation advisor, she is currently working for the Ministry of Defence, defence industry and OGDs. 

In 2022 Kirsty was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of her 10 years spearheading the strategic direction of the charity, and of more than 30 years’ voluntary work in total for the organisation.

She is a uniformed Scout leader, active member of her Parochial Church Council and until recently a Governor of her local school.  Training for the next SSAFA Ride to the Somme is her main hobby.
