SSAFA enjoys the Royal Hospital Chelsea's invitation

17 July 2023

SSAFA's London Central West Division was invited to The Governor’s Review at The Royal Hospital Chelsea (RHC) last month as part of the RHC Outreach programme.

The Division represents SSAFA at the RHC Outreach days run each month for pensionable veterans from all three services.

Alec Legge joined the London division last year, having been a SSAFA caseworker in North Wales. Once he became a Chelsea Pensioner, and moved to London, he signed straight up with his new local branch of SSAFA and is now a caseworker in this region.

Alec said: “I served with the Royal Military Police, travelled the world and was married for 56 years. When my wife died I became very lonely and thought I might like to live in a community. I came from a quiet village but have settled into the Royal Hospital really well. Volunteering keeps me busy, and I was very pleased to be able to transfer as a caseworker for SSAFA down to London.”

Alec works out of the Fulham office and the London District are always in need of volunteers. SSAFA provides support for serving personnel, veterans and their families in their time of need.

Tracey Morgan, SSAFA’s Regional Operations Support Manager said: “There are many veterans in the Greater London area who need a little extra help. Currently, we are seeking volunteer Caseworkers across London so do take a look our website to see if you’d fit the bill. Full training is given and a DBS check will be required for this role.”

The next RHC outreach event is the Veterans’ Picnic on the 1 August, which you can find out about here
