SSAFA's 13 Bridges Challenge returns, bigger and better in 2024
22 February 2024
SSAFA’s flagship event, the 13 Bridges Challenge, happening on 29 June, sees participants walk past iconic London sights including Tower Bridge and London Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Palace, Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, and many more, on the 10 mile walk which criss-crosses the beautiful river Thames.
The event is supported for the fourth year running by Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, one of the leading UK civil engineering contractors, who not only provide practical support on the day, but also help raise funds with their walking team too.
Hannah Siddle, Senior Challenge Events Officer said: “We could not run this event without the support of our corporate partners and Morgan Sindall have helped us make this event a success over a few years now, for which we are very grateful.”
Attendance at the event has doubled over the last two years. This year we are aiming to have a thousand walkers take the challenge. In 2023 we raised over £95,000 but this year we are appealing to our supporters to join in and help us get the total to over £100,000 in 2024.
The 13 Bridges Challenge is open to all ages and abilities, and the route is entirely wheelchair accessible. The walk is fully guided, with SSAFA team-leaders looking after participants every step of the way. Members of the Armed Forces are also on hand to give guidance and assistance to those who need it. And at the finish line there is a party atmosphere with everything from food and drink to generators and porta-loos (supplied by Morgan Sindall Infrastructure!).
